William D. Lowe, M.D.

Dr. Lowe is a native Texan. He graduated from Rider High and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston. Dr. Lowe returned to north Texas for his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Hand surgery captured his interest, and he was pleased to acquire a hand surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Lowe is board certified in both Orthopedics and Hand Surgery.

While a majority of Dr. Lowe’s professional life was involved with running a solo practice in Fort Worth, he began his career as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Most recently he spent three years in Morganton, North Carolina as the hand expert for Carolina OrthopedicSpecialists. He now returns to Fort Worth and the Bone and Joint Clinic.

Dr. Lowe has been a member of the American Medical Association and the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. His current memberships include the Texas Medical Association, Tarrant County Medical Society, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Lowe contributed test questions to be given to other hand surgeons for 5 years as a member of the Self Assessment Exam Committee with the ASSH. Dr. Lowe has given national and international talks on wrist fractures and thumb arthritis.

Dr. Lowe was delighted to join the TCU Sports Medicine  staff (along with fellow Bone and Joint Clinic physicians Brotherton, Milne, Meyers and Wylie) in 1999, which is accompanied by appointment as adjunct faculty at TCU. (He furthered his ties to TCU earning an MBA there in 2005.)  Dr. Lowe was thrilled to experience the Central Hockey League Championship as a team physician with the Fort Worth Fire and transitioning with many of those players to the Fort Worth Brahmas. He was a team physician with Blue Ridge Sports Medicine, serving the four high schools of Burke County, North Carolina.

Walter R. Lowe, M.D.

During internship, Dr. Lowe met and married Shelley, from Paris, Texas. They have two boys, one almost in and one almost out of college. Dr. Lowe learned woodworking from his father-in-law and enjoys making small decorative bowls and boxes. Shelley is a master gardener. Together they enjoy their sons, gardening, cooking and entertaining friends.
